We thought we would share with you our stats on our 100 geocaching finds in 2006. We have enjoyed our new hobby so much this year. It has taken us to some very beautiful locations which we would have never visited otherwise.

Many of you are Draper’s Diary readers because you are following our journey as Kevin studies to become a pastor. It is hard for us to believe that our six-year adventure is drawing to a close. When we left Texas in 2001 our baby boy, Benjamin, was a one-year-old and Kevin’s graduation day in 2007 seemed like a lifetime away. Now Benjamin is a first grader and Kevin’s graduation is less than five months away. We rejoice that with the dawning of this new year the day is drawing ever closer when, God willing, Kevin will be able to serve the Lord on a full-time basis.

We close out 2006 with a prayer for all our friends and family for a healthy and prosperous new year. May your faith in Christ be strengthened and grow in 2007!

P.S. In case you are wondering, assignment day is May 24 and graduation is May 25, 2007. The big events will be streamed live via the web. More details will be posted when they are available. For those who enjoy such things, the official countdown (not that we are counting ;-)), according to TimeAndDate.com is as follows:

From and including: Monday, January 1, 2007
To, but not including : Thursday, May 24, 2007

It is 143 days from the start date to the end date, but not including the end date

Or 4 months, 23 days excluding the end date

    Alternative time units

143 days can be converted to one of these units:

    • 12,355,200 seconds
    • 205,920 minutes
    • 3432 hours
    • 20 weeks (rounded down)
  • Christmas Vacation – Afterglow

We’ve returned from our wonderful trip south for Christmas with family, and we wanted to share a few of the highlights:

    • We saw all of our family and enjoyed singing, food, gifts, food, ornament exchange, food, friendly card games (hmmm Hannibal – Who won both games?), food, warm weather and lots of great food!
    • We got to worship on Christmas Eve morning at King of Kings Lutheran in Alexandria, LA with Pastor Chris Esmay (a former vicar in our Texas congregation) and visit afterwards with him and his wife Kerri
    • We went geocaching on the way down – including a fun stop in Memphis at Elvis’ home, Graceland – while in Natchez (with several family members who had never been geocaching before) and on the way back. The trip was capped off with our 100th cache find yesterday at a rest stop in Illinois!
    • God blessed us and all of our family with safe travels to and from, and for that we are very thankful.

We hope you enjoy a few photos of the fun.

Welcome back to the Draper’s Diary. We’ve had another busy month. Wow – senior year at the Seminary is flying by. Now it is less than six months to graduation! Kevin continues to preach on a monthly basis in Lake Geneva. This month when we were there, we got a special treat because it was Camp Phillip Sunday. We got to sing all of our favorite camp songs. What fun!! In addition to preaching in Lake Geneva, Kevin also preached at Grace Lutheran in Sugar Bush (north of New London), WI. This congregation has adopted our family for all four years at Seminary, a wonderful blessing to us! This is the third time we have visited there for Kevin to preach and each time they have had a potluck meal after church for us.

We were busy with other activities this month as well, including geocaching and Luke’s class sining for the Veteran’s Day celebration in Germantown, WI. Read on for more about these events. We enjoyed attending the Forensics meet at Luther Prep and catching up with many of our Sun Prairie friends. We especially enjoyed ice cream with the Werres and Bastians at Mullen’s afterwards. Yum!

We surprised Ben and his best buddy Andrew with a Star Wars birthday bash. Our house was a tangled web of laser beams, and all the kids had to untangle the mess. We all had a very fun time. Ben and Andrew loved their Star Wars cake and both are enjoying Lego Star Wars II video games.

We’ll close this quick update and look forward to our December Christmas news coming soon! God bless and keep you in his tender care!

  • Come Geocaching With Us

We spent some of this years’ Thanksgiving holiday hot on the trail of several Germantown, WI geocaches. For those who are new to the term, geocaching is an global treasure hunt where participants search for logged caches using a GPS receiver. The official web site for geocahing, www.geocaching.com, explains it this way:

    What is Geocaching?

Geocaching is an entertaining adventure game for gps users. Participating in a cache hunt is a good way to take advantage of the wonderful features and capability of a gps unit. The basic idea is to have individuals and organizations set up caches all over the world and share the locations of these caches on the internet. GPS users can then use the location coordinates to find the caches. Once found, a cache may provide the visitor with a wide variety of rewards. All the visitor is asked to do is if they get something they should try to leave something for the cache.

So on Thanksgiving day our family, also know as team geofish5, along with our team mascot, Casey the Wonder Dog, set out to find more caches in one day than we had ever found before. Our previous record had been six caches in one day. We took along our video recorder so you could enjoy the experience with us and perhaps be motivated to try geocaching yourself, if you haven’t already.

Warning: The following video contains geocache location “spoilers”. Do not watch if you plan to geocache in Germantown, WI. 😉

    Stanley
    Thin, reader, tall, and ferocious
    Son of Kevin and Sallie
    Sibling of Luke and Ben
Lover of recess, a good meal, and some desert
Who feels happy at recess, glad in the summer, and sad when summer ends
Who finds happiness in books, chocolate, and his grandma
Who needs a dog, some love, and a new game
Who gives the dog food, water, along with a treat
    Who fears the Devil
Who would like to see Jesus
    Who enjoys recess with friends
Who wears jeans and a t-shirt
    Resident of Milwaukee
