    How to Live Forever

Here is a Bible.  It is made up of paper printed with ink.  The cover is cardboard and it is all bound together with some glue and stitching.  It was probably made several years ago and with a single match is easily destroyed.  It is an object with a limited life span on this earth.  If you take care of it, it will last longer, but not forever.  Eventually, as the years pass, the pages will become dirty or torn and we will need to replace this book.  This book is temporary and in some ways frail.

  • Let the Peace of Christ Fill Your Life

Let the Peace of Christ Fill Your Life
    (.mp3 – 5 MB)

    Sermon 122808 Wordle

Have you ever walked into a house where someone just finished baking bread? Do you remember the smell when the oven door opens and the bread is taken out to cool? It is a delicious smell and no matter where you go in the house, the aroma seems to follow you. The smell fills the house so that no matter where you go in the house you can’t stop thinking about fresh bread.

Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts. In the same way that the aromas from the kitchen permeate the entire house, let the peace of Christ fill your life. First, Paul describes what it looks like to be filled with the peace of Christ, then he explains how we have that peace.

  • Look Into the Manger

    Look Into the Manger
    (.mp3 – 3.5 MB)

Have you had a chance to look into the manger?  I don’t mean the manger in our chancel.  I’m talking about the manger in Bethlehem 2000 years ago.  In a figurative way have you looked into that manger this Christmas season and considered who it is you see there?

There in that feeding trough you see a baby – a small, fragile, weak infant who needs someone else to take care of him.  Just like any other baby he doesn’t look like a threat to anyone.  In fact, have you ever come across a baby who you thought might hurt you?  No, I didn’t think so.  Perhaps that is why this world is much more willing to celebrate Christmas than Easter.  Jesus as a little baby is not very threatening to anyone, but a Jesus who dies and comes back to life is someone with power – someone you better pay attention to.

Joe the burglar was caught stealing and sent to a desert where he would spend the rest of his life.

Joe the burglar found a pond. By the pond he found some carrots. He said “I did not know carrots grew in the desert. Uh oh!” A rattlesnake slithered up and bit him. He fed the snake a mouse and trained him. He made a fire and healed from his bite.

Then he drank some water, ate some carrots, and went to sleep. He woke up as his snake slithered across him. “A new day.” He said.

    Stranded

    Chapter 1
    Getting situated

I was stranded. My crushed boat lay beside me. Everything but my clothes and some flint and steel was destroyed.

I got up and decided to scout the lay of the land. I guess that I was lucky, because I located a cave that I could use. I then found some brush and built a fire.
