The Ballad of the Draper’s Vacation
Come and listen as I tell you
Of a trip beyond compare
When the Draper’s headed south
For sunshine and family fare.
It was August 2002,
And relaxation was our objective.
The fun started quickly
When our Arkansas kin were elected.
The Boyte’s provided some hospitality.
Melissa’s hairstyle was an interesting way to wear it.
Our time together was short,
But no puppies did we inherit.
(Even though they tried to give us one …
or three … or TWELVE!!!)
Our next stop was Mississippi
Where Jan went with us to a wedding.
Zach and Wendy looked so happy.
We took lots of pics in this setting.
Our travels on I-12 were a bit frightening -
Someone sideswiped our car.
We were thankful to the good Lord.
He protected us – kept us safe from mar.
At Nana and PawPaw’s the boys were spoiled
With many gifts, including Legos.
A Star Wars cake and lots of clothes
Were on tap for these day-os.
Our time together seemed so short,
But lots of good food was eaten.
Popcorn shrimp and catfish are great
But fried pickles can’t be beaten!
The next leg of our pleasant journey
Took us through the east Texas wood.
We stopped to check the progress
Of Chris Delker’s airplane. Looking GOOD!!
Then on we went to Grandma and Papa’s
“Boot Ranch” property near Lake Texoma
For some fun bell ringing and donkey feeding
At their awesome hand-built home-a.
We had great visits with lots of friends –
The Gabbs, the Burks and Atonement ladies.
We enjoyed attending church at Immanuel
And swimming at Fergy’s with the mate-ies.
Our Texas time was made complete
With a trip to the old neighborhood.
We also made time for dinner out –
A Texas-size rib eye! M-M-Good!
That wraps up our attempt at poetry
For back home in Minnesota we are.
Back-to-school awaits us in the coming weeks,
But our memories keep us near – not far!
May the Lord bless and keep you all!
O Lord, open my lips,
and my mouth will declare your praise.
Psalm 51:15 (NIV)
