April 30, 2005 – Happy Birthday to niece Melissa Boyte who is 20 today!!! We love you!

Welcome back to the Draper’s Diary. There is much news to report, starting with Kevin’s vicar assignment. On April 7th we found out the much anticipated news that Kevin was assigned to serve as a vicer in the coming school year at Peace Ev. Lutheran Church, Sun Prairie, WI!

We were thrilled to meet Pastor Luke Werre and his wife, Jennifer, who along with their oldest son attended the vicar assignment ceremony. We plan to move to Sun Prairie in early August and look forward to our time at Peace!!

The school year is rapidly coming to a close for four Draper guys. Kevin is busy with three remaining papers. He has only 12 more classes to attend as a Middler (not that he’s counting)! We are all looking forward to participating in the Seminary “Predicition Run” next weekend. Everyone predicts how long it will take to run or walk 5K and the closest prediction wins a tee-shirt. It should be a fun event including burgers and brats afterwards.

The boys are taking a rock climbing class at the YMCA. They have learned to climb on the 21 foot wall (Stanley and Kevin made it the the top!) as well as “boulder” or climb side-to-side in a tunnel.

Sallie’s work continues to be exciting and challenging! There is much preparation being made for this summer’s Synod Convention. Check out the Synod Convention web site! Both Kevin and Sallie will be working at the convention this summer, helping out with the technical aspects related to the coverage of the event.

We were the receipients of a gift of “new” furniture this week. A family donated items to Seminary students and we received a couch, three chairs and other items. What a blessing!

If you haven’t check out our family Friday night podcast, the DraperCAST, I enourage you to give it a listen. It is a downloadable audio file (.mp3 format) that can be played on your computer or portable listening device.

We’ll close by sending you our love and sharing with you Jesus’ love:

And this is his command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he commanded us. Those who obey his commands live in him, and he in them. And this is how we know that he lives in us: We know it by the Spirit he gave us. (1 John 3:23-24)

Hope you enjoy the photos. Come back next month for more!

Our class went to a play! It was called “Honk”. Otherwise it was called “The Ugly Duckling” because when his egg hatched he was not a duck but a swan. But he didn’t know that. The cat tricked him into being lost. In the end it appeared that he was dead but he wasn’t. He was just covered in snow.

Evan, Wyatt and I counted 386 tractor trailers on the way back and the way there.

The decision is in and tonight’s DraperCAST includes a special visitor who will announce the news we have all been waiting for – Kevin’s vicar assignment. After we’re done discussing the big news, we’ll enjoy a bit of a joke night. Hope it makes you laugh!

Rejoice with us! Tonight Kevin received his vicar assignment to Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Sun Prairie, WI. He will begin his year of service there on August 15th.

We were immediately welcomed to the congregation by Pastor Luke Werre, his wife Jennifer and one of their children, Jason, who traveled to the Seminary to attend the service tonight. I can’t describe the excitement and joy we feel at this point as we can now look forward to this next phase of Kevin’s preparation for the ministry. God is so good!!

    Peace through Jesus!

  • Exciting Day

After 4 years of study, my husband Kevin will find out tonight where he is assigned to serve as a Vicar during the upcoming school year. The excitement and anticipation of the announcement is very real for me this morning. I am also filled with awe that 4 years have passed so quickly. It seems like just yesterday we were packing our possessions in a U-Haul van and moving cross country (Texas to Minnesota) to start our journey. Now here we are ready to find out about vicar assignment! Wow!

We are different people that we were when we left Texas 4 years ago. Kevin certainly has a lot more knowledge floating through that brain of his. But, all the “book-learning” aside, Kevin and I and our children and I would venture to say our parents, family and friends have all grown in faith, trust and awe of the triune God. The comfort of salvation through Jesus is real. The comfort of the daily presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives is real. The comfort of the love, concern and attention to detail of the heavenly Father is real.

Yes, I’m excited about tonight. I’m ready to get on with preparing for the changes ahead – new schools for the kids, new home for us, another U-Haul van . . .

But I am so at peace about the assignment. I am confident that God, who has blessed us immeasurably thus far on this journey, is preparing a place for Kevin to serve that will give him (and the rest of us) the exact experience he desires for us.

    To God be the glory!
